There are plenty of ways to make money on your website and we will point out the best of the best in later posts. As for now lets take a quick look at a few common ways to make money on a website.
1. Selling a product, service or package
Whether you are selling a physical product like a bike or a digital product like an Ebook this is the most obvious ways to make money on your website.
2. Google Adsense
Adsense is great … if you have a lot of traffic. Even if you don’t have a lot of traffic it’s a good way to at least diversify your approach toward monitizing your website and hey it’s a powerful name that other less educated users are more drawn to because they trust it so they may be more inclined to click links associated with a name they know. Placing google ads is an important concept. As Google displays on their website the best areas to place your adsense we must point out that balancing the amount of adsense mixed in with your content is crucial. Too much adsense will hurt small traffic websites from growing larger the most because the users naturally don’t trust ads and all that mistrust being associated with a smaller and mostly unknown website is not going to keep them coming back or talking about the site. If you’re website brings in a lot of traffic then you can be so bold as to having a heavy mix of adsense with your content. Worst thing that can happen is you see a decline in your traffic. In which case you simply lower the mix of adsense.
3. Text Link Ads
Text Link Ads offer advertisers a way to bid for space on your website. Like any other way to make money the performance of this method is directly related with the amount of traffic you have on your website. However, you may be serving such a niche population (probably a wealthy niche) that advertisers may be really anxious to get to you and pay even with little traffic. They have one other really powerful service they offer but you have to sign up with their service and add one of your websites in order to get offered an invitation to sign up to use their second service while it’s still in beta. We are unable to talk further about the service upon their request to be highly selective during the beta phase.
4. Referrals
Referrals are best used when the website’s content makes an actual connection between a common need/Interest (by your reader’s demographic) and a solution (the product/service you are referring to) rather than simply displaying a banner/text ad. If you have a large amount of readers and they trust your advice then this a powerful way to make money. However, be aware that if you place too many referrals then your content begins to lose credibility as the reader will believe that you are more interested in selling them something rather than providing quality content for the topics they are interested in. If the article is based around resources for a particular method of doing things then of course it would be acceptable to place many referrals because the whole point of the article is to connect your readers with quality services.
5. Affiliate Networks
Related PostsThere are plenty of banner affiliate networks out there and they can easily be found using a search engine but here is a quick link if you want a directory of 100+ affiliate networks. Affiliate networks provide a large number of advertisers offering automated programs that pay website publishers. Many times the advertiser will accept most websites but sometimes there is a need for applications rather than being accepted upon signup. Typically this offers a quick and easy way for web publishers to search through industries and research the companies that are offering great payouts. If the company isn’t a total scam or waste of peoples’ time then the web publisher may think it’s a good idea setup a campaign go for the big bucks!
